Blonde hair is beautiful! Even if you are already (somewhat) grey, blonde colours are very suitable. Because your skin gets a bit lighter as you turn grey, blonde hair colours look less harsh. Blonde hair puts less emphasis on the fine lines or wrinkles in your skin. Another great advantage of a blonde hair colour is that any grey outgrowth is much less noticeable!
Exactly half of our hair colours are blonde shades, from dark blonde (7.0) to our lightest colour, the very light blonde ash (11.1). In total, we offer eighteen hair colours in the colour level blonde, so plenty of choice if you want to go for blonde! But which blonde hair colour is best to choose? We explain.
Is your hair not dyed now, and you would like to dye your hair blonde?
Then you can choose a blonde hair colour up to two colour heights lighter than your own. So first determine what the colour height of your own hair is. Do this by comparing the (average) colour of your hair with the hair dye colours on our website. You then know your own colour height. Colour heights run from black (1.0) to very light blonde (11.1).
- Is your hair now black or dark brown? Unfortunately, your hair is too dark to dye with WECOLOUR hair colour to a blonde colour height.
- Are you a brunette and does your natural hair colour fall in colour level 5, brown? Then you can choose from all blonde hair colours starting with the number 7.
- Are you a brunette and does your natural hair colour fall into colour level 6, light brown? Then you can choose a blonde hair colour starting with the number 7 (dark blonde) or 8 (medium blonde).
- Are you a dark blonde and does your natural hair colour fall into colour level 7? Then you can choose a blonde colour starting with number 7 (dark blonde), 8 (medium blonde) or 9 or 11 (light blonde).
- Are you a blonde and does your natural hair colour fall into colour level 8? Then you can choose a blonde colour starting with the number 7 (dark blonde), 8 (medium blonde), 9 (light blonde), the 10.01 (very light blonde) and the very light ash blonde (11.1). This last blonde colour contains 9% hydrogen peroxide instead of 6% which is in the other blonde hair colours. Therefore, you can really lighten up your hair with this. But an ash very light blonde (11.1) does not cover grey hair very well.
- Are you blonde and does your natural hair colour fall in colour level 9? Then you can choose a blonde colour starting with the number 7 (dark blonde), 8 (medium blonde), 9 (light blonde), for the 10.01 (very light blonde) and for our lightest hair colour, the 11.1, ash very light blonde.
- If you have red hair, it's a bit trickier to go blonde. In that case, you definitely need to bleach. And because a red outgrowth will stand out even more in your blonde hair, you will also have to touch up very regularly. It requires a lot of maintenance. In this blog you can read about bleaching red hair.
Want to go really light and thinking about choosing the very light ash blonde? Then keep in mind that this colour because of the 9% hydrogen peroxide, does put more strain on your hair. The condition of your hair may deteriorate as a result. It is therefore a good idea to check the condition of your hair and possibly improve it before you dye. You can do this by using a good shampoo or conditioner or our Dark Bamboo that will make your hair stronger. Our Argan Silk also gives your hair extra care and protects blonde hair colours. Or you can use a hair mask. If this doesn't improve your hair, it's better to choose a different colour blonde so your hair won't be so damaged. With all our other colours, the percentage of hydrogen peroxide (activator) is 6%. This is much gentler on your hair.
Is your hair dyed now and do you want to dye it blonde?
Then you can only go for a darker blonde shade or a different shade within your current colour height. Blond hair the same colour height, by which we mean that in, say, colour height 7, you can choose a different shade. So you can choose dark blonde (7.0), ash dark blonde (7.1), gold dark blonde (7.3), almond dark blonde (7.37), copper dark blonde (7.4), intense copper dark blonde (7.44) and caramel dark blonde (7.7).
Is your hair already grey (turning grey)? Then take the following into account
If you are less than 50% grey, you can choose any colour from WECOLOUR that matches your current (dyed) colour level. If your hair is greyer (so you can really see the grey hairs from a distance), it is best to choose a natural colour; a colour ending in .0 or take the hair colour golden dark blonde (7.3). These colours are perfect grey coverage. The gold dark blonde is a lot warmer than the natural shade. However, this colour often turns out a bit darker.
You can also mix colours. For example, do you want a copper colour with optimal grey coverage? Then mix our copper dark blonde (7.4) with the natural shade dark blonde (7.0). Use the same amount of colour cream of both colours. This weakens the copper colour slightly, but the result is still a nice grey-covering copper dark blonde hair colour. You can also mix with an ash shade. This will keep the colour ashy and give you excellent grey coverage. An ash blonde colour is cool, a bit greyer and duller than a gold or natural shade.
How is the condition of your hair?
Of course, a colour looks best on healthy hair! So make sure your hair is in good condition before you dye it. This is how you do it. With very porous hair, for example, an ash shade sometimes turns grey. It's better to choose a warmer shade, like the gold dark blonde or copper dark blonde. Is your colour rather too warm and you see an orange undertone? Then it's better to choose a natural shade or an ash shade, which will counteract a warm, orange glow over your hair. Are you afraid to go all the way to a gold or ash shade? Then first mix the colour with the natural shade (.0). This makes the colour more neutral. Mixing our hair colour is how you do it!

It may be when you have blonde (dyed) hair, you will suffer from a yellow glow in your hair after a while. Very annoying, but fortunately, you can easily get rid of it. For example, with WECOLOUR's No-yellow Mousse. This is a toning and conditioning formula that corrects this glow in your hair. Use No-yellow Mousse as often as you like because, unlike silver shampoos, it does not harm your hair. The mousse is suitable for all hair types and does not weigh hair down.
