Despite a lot of being written about this subject suggesting that where there is smoke there is also fire, it is completely safe for your unborn child to dye your hair if you are pregnant. Even if you are breastfeeding, it is safe to dye your hair. But to be on the safe side, avoid bleaching your hair and carry out an allergy test first. It is then best to test the dye on a strand of your hair first.
OK, hair dye is a chemical product. And it can sometimes smell so awful because of the ammonia it usually contains. Hence, many people get the idea that it might be harmful. WECOLOUR hair colour does not contain ammonia anyway. WECOLOUR hair colour is 'as pure as possible' and completely safe to use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. At WECOLOUR we have already replaced the aggressive substances found in most hair dyes as much as possible with natural or mild alternatives. For example, there is no ammonia in WECOLOUR hair colour. WECOLOUR hair colour also does not contain questionable substances such as PPD, resorcinol and silicones. These substances are aggressive, and in any case affect the quality of your hair. What is not good for your hair may not be good for your baby. But WECOLOUR hair colour is free of these substances.
Although WECOLOUR hair colour does not contain many questionable substances, it is (grey) opaque hair colour, and we use hydrogen peroxide (we call this 'activator'). The percentage of hydrogen peroxide we use as standard is 6%. This is not harmful to your health or to the baby.
Only the very light ash blonde (11.1) has a higher percentage of hydrogen peroxide added. This percentage is 9%. Also, if you order this colour, you can choose 12% hydrogen peroxide. A lot of research has been done, and it has not been proven that hydrogen peroxide is harmful to your health or that of your child. But do you want to be on the safe side? Then, if you are pregnant, do not choose a hydrogen peroxide percentage higher than 6%. Don't go for very light blonde for a while. We say this because bleaching your hair during pregnancy is sometimes not recommended because of the high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide.
Do you still have doubts about using hair dye during pregnancy? Then just skip dyeing your hair for a while. Because worry and stress are definitely something that can have a detrimental effect on your child(ren). And a nice colour is certainly never worth that. Of course, being a bit more careful is also possible! For example, some women choose not to dye their hair during the first trimester. Because during that period, an unborn child is more at risk. And others dye less frequently. Or now choose a more responsible or natural dye product than they normally do.
Because your hair structure changes during pregnancy, hair dye can take on a different appearance. Your hair may become fuller, drier, oilier or, on the contrary, thinner and lifeless. It is therefore possible that your hair dye will not turn out as you expected. Try out the dye on a strand of hair first. That way you can see how the colour turns out on your hair. The motto is: test before you dye.
Ventilate the room where you dye your hair well. Your sense of smell also changes during pregnancy. You have probably already noticed this! You might even get nauseous from the air while you dye your hair. WECOLOUR has a very mild fragrance, but perhaps you use another brand of hair dye that does smell strongly.
Besides your hair structure, your skin also changes of hormones. It is therefore advisable during your pregnancy to first carry out an allergy test on the skin with the hair dye. You may react differently. At WECOLOUR you can request testers to test the hair dye on your skin first. This is handy because you do not have to order dyes only to find out that you cannot use them because you have an allergic reaction.
