How do you dye dry and damaged hair anyway?

How do you dye dry and damaged hair anyway?

If you have dry, porous or damaged hair and want to dye it, be careful with the colour. Dry and damaged hair absorbs the pigment from the hair dye and often makes the colour turn out much darker than expected. Sometimes up to three-colour heights darker! So be sure to use one colour shade lighter. Our Colour Mask protects your hair and scalp during or after colouring. Also, a softer shampoo like the Dark Bamboo will help restore your dry hair.

Step-by-step plan to dye dry, porous or curly hair

After dyeing many times with a lower quality hair dye containing harmful ingredients like ammonia and resorcinol, your hair often looks less shiny. Your hair could use a boost then. If you then dye your hair again, keep a few points in mind.

  1. Dry hair absorbs pigment from the hair dye, which often makes the result one or two colour levels darker. Therefore, if your hair is dry, porous or curly, choose hair dye that is one to two colour heights lighter than the colour you had in mind.
  2. Porous and curly hair needs extra care when you dye.
  3. Avoid all products that contain ammonia, sulphate and resorcinol. This dries out the hair even further and affects the structure of your hair.

Before you start dyeing, wash your hair with Dark Bamboo three days in advance. This is a shampoo based on clay and black bamboo. It is a natural product without sulphates and parabens and gives your hair that little bit extra it needs if it is dry, damaged or porous. If you have curls, it gives your curl elasticity and keeps it from getting frizzy. Three days after washing, you can dye your hair. If your hair is dry and porous, we recommend adding the Colour Mask to the colour cream and activator. This mask hydrates and protects your hair and scalp during dyeing. You mix the hair colour and activator as usual, then add 1/6 part colour mask. With this, you colour the roots and lengths as usual. You leave this on for 35 minutes before rinsing it out. You wash your hair as usual and then use the conditioner. Leave it on for 15 minutes before brushing it out. This will give your hair an extra boost and make it shine optimally! You can also use the dark bamboo to wash out the hair dye. You don't need to leave this in for 15 minutes, you can wash it out straight away.

Tips for dry and porous hair

What you can do if you have dry, porous or damaged hair is to start by dyeing your hair with WECOLOUR hair dye in combination with our Colour Mask. The hair dye contains no ammonia, PPD or resorcinol, but it does contain caring ingredients such as argan oil and calendula. Colour Mask is a new technology that you use directly while dyeing your hair. It hydrates and protects your hair. The moisture balance and structure of your hair are thus optimally preserved. You can also use Colour Mask as a mask. You let it soak in for half an hour and then rinse it out. Your hair is softer, and its structure is restored.

Using a serum like Argan Silk is also recommended. Argan Silk hydrates, nourishes and provides a silky shine. In addition, it protects your hair from moisture and heat. Also, ideal for coloured hair! Argan Silk contains no SLS, sulphates, parabens, resorcinol and peg. And of course, Argan Silk has not been tested on animals. Argan Silk contains argan oil, coconut oil and beeswax. The oils have been molecularly converted to a cream, so it won't weigh your hair down, won't make it frizzy and gives lots of care. The Argan Silk normally costs €11.50 and contains 75ml. If you order it in combination with a hair dye pack or Dark Bamboo, you will pay only €10.35 for Argan Silk, the same price as when you buy Argan Silk in a subscription.
