Dry shampoo is an ideal solution when you have no time to wash your hair, or prefer to postpone washing it. You don't have to leave your hair greasy. This is because dry shampoo absorbs the sebum in your hair for a fresh look.
Dry shampoo exists in spray, powder and mousse form. The oily layer of sebum on your head makes your hair look greasy. You also only see greasier roots, the lengths do not get greasy. A dry shampoo absorbs the sebum from your hair and scalp and creates a fresh look. This way, you can postpone washing your hair for a few days. And washing your hair less is better.
If you have oily hair, you probably tend to wash it often. Washing your hair often is not good for your hair and maintaining a beautifully dyed colour. It is better to wash it once or twice a week at most. Doesn't that make it greasy you might think? Not at all, in fact. Greasy hair is a kind of cyclus. You wash your hair every day and take away too many natural oils. This causes your scalp to produce more sebum, which makes your hair greasy again much faster. Also read our blog Greasy hair. It takes some persistence, but if you wash your hair less, you will see that it does not become greasy as quickly. Using dry shampoo for a day or two will freshen it up in between. Another added benefit is that it makes your hair smell fresh and gives it volume again.
You can find a huge range of dry shampoos at drugstores. Do you want floral or fruity? Or do you prefer no scent. Everything can be found. Even for blondes and brunettes and dry or frizzy hair, there are different sprays. So experiment!
Of course you follow the instructions on the packaging. But generally you use the same methods.
1. With a spray you apply the dry shampoo to dry hair. If you do this on wet (and clean) hair it will just become very stiff. You spray it from a distance of 15-30 cm. This also prevents a white haze on your hair. If you spray from too close, your hair will get a bit damp and the scales may clog. Leave it to work for a while and then massage it in so it can absorb all the sebum. Brush through a little more and style.
2. You also apply a powder to dry hair and massage it a little into your hair. Brush it out and voila, a fresh look.
3. A mousse is applied to your hands first and then to your hair. Leave it on for a while and massage it into your hair. Again, brush it out well. If necessary, blow-dry it briefly. The mousse can make your hair a little damp.
You can also use the dry shampoo in the evening before going to bed. If you do it before bed, just spray it on and go to sleep. The spray, powder or mousse can do its job all night. When you wake up, all you have to do is brush your hair and you have a fresh hairdo with volume.
Do you have curls? Then don't brush it out but shake your hair loose with your fingers.
Do not use dry shampoo too often or for too long. It can irritate your scalp. Just like washing your hair too often, it can also make your scalp too clean and cause extra sebum to be produced. Wash your hair again in time with a good shampoo. Use dry shampoo in the right way and you will get a lot of benefits!
