Dyeing curly hair, for women or men with curls, can sometimes be a challenge. Curly hair naturally has a more open structure than straight hair, so many curly girls are afraid that hair dye will damage their hair and make it more porous.
WECOLOUR hair dye is as pure as possible and contains no ammonia, resorcinol, or PPD. Therefore, it does not damage the hair as is the case with most hair dyes from the drugstore, but it nourishes, hydrates, and gives it a healthy shine. Exactly what curly hair needs. Various blogging curlies have already dyed their hair with WECOLOUR, check out the blogs from Tante Truus and Kiki’s Kloset for example. They were surprised by the good results of WECOLOUR hair dye.
But what else should curly girls consider when dyeing? We tell you the do's and don'ts in this blog.
curly hair is naturally drier and more porous than straight hair. Dry or porous hair absorbs the pigments from hair dye faster, which can make a colour turn out darker than you wish. Hair that is dyed too dark cannot be dyed lighter; the opposite is possible. So, choose a lighter shade, and if it turns out too light, you can always go a shade darker. This way, you avoid unwanted surprises and, as our hair dye does not damage your hair, you can immediately apply the darker shade.
Curly hair sometimes appears shorter than it actually is. Curls up to your shoulders might fall over your shoulder blades when straightened. Consider in advance how much dye you will need. As a rule, one package of hair dye is enough for shoulder-length hair. If your stretched curls reach over your shoulders, you might need two packages. Our hair dye is shelf-stable for twelve months when unmixed. You can use half of the second tube and save the rest for another time. It is very important to use enough hair dye to avoid patchy results.
To nourish and hydrate curly hair during dyeing and to protect against drying out, you can add Colour Mask to the hair dye. Your scalp is also better protected this way. This rich formula full of high-quality ingredients like aloe vera, calendula, and pomegranate extract is a treat for your hair! Colour Mask restores and protects your hair during dyeing. You can also use this formula as an intensive hair mask to give your hair an extra hydration boost.
Once you have considered the above tips, it's time to start dyeing. As said before, don't skimp on the hair dye. Once you have evenly distributed the hair dye over the curls, push them back into the curl with your hands. Do not use a comb, as this can lead to patchy results. We include plastic gloves with your package of hair dye, so use them to evenly distribute the dye through your hair with your hands.
You know the feeling, your shampoo lathers beautifully, and you feel like your hair is getting really clean. This is true, but at the same time, all protective oils and sebum from your scalp are dissolved. The lathering of a shampoo is caused by aggressive sulfates (SLS) and can dry out your hair and scalp. So, choose a shampoo without SLS to wash your curls. Or even better; wash your hair with our natural and nurturing Dark Bamboo.
