Frizzy hair

Do you suffer from frizzy hair? Do you have frizzy hair, waves, curls or grey hair? If so, your hair is naturally more porous and drier, and unfortunately it also frizzes more. Curls are often hidden in frizzy hair. With proper, gentle care, these will come out. So who knows, with a change in hair care, you might suddenly have a beautiful bunch of curls!

When straight hair is frizzy, external damage is often the cause. Through bleaching, chemical treatments or use of heat tools, for example. It could also be that your hair only frizzes under certain weather conditions. Or only when you've just got out of bed. We tell you how it happens and, above all, how to prevent it!

Preventing frizzy hair

If you suffer a lot from frizzy hair, it is useful not only to treat symptoms, but above all to prevent your hair from getting frizzy. Want to get rid of your frizzy hair once and for all? Then take a closer look and adjust your hair routine according to the following tips for frizz-free hair in the long run:

Limit shampoo

Don't wash your hair every day (preferably once or twice a week) and if you wash, use a mild shampoo without sulphates. Conditioner is a must!

Never skip the conditioner!

A good conditioner without silicones or with silicones that are water-soluble will make your hair cuticles close better. WECOLOUR conditioner contains no microplastics and is Curly Girl proof.

Use dry shampoo in between

To postpone washing your frizzy hair a bit longer, use a dry shampoo for frizzy or damaged hair in between. This will not dry out your hair, but it will absorb any greasiness without leaving a powdery residue. Moreover, a dry shampoo for curls adds shine. This is something frizzy hair can always use!

Hair mask

Once a week, use a hair mask. Feel free to leave this on all night for maximum results. You can also try our Colour Mask to do so. This is more than an ordinary hair mask. Colour Mask repairs the broken sulphur compounds in your hair. Colour Mask contains no microplastics or silicones. You use it while dyeing your hair or as a repairing mask. It works exactly the same as a very well-known brand in this field.

Avoid the hair dryer

Do not use a hair dryer! Doing so will create more volume and frizz (and will blow your curls out). No patience until your hair is dry? Then use a hair dry hood to which you connect your hair dryer. Ideally, don't use heat tools at all but let your hair air dry.

Pay attention to certain alcohol in your ingredients list

Avoid dehydrating alcohol when styling your hair. WECOLOUR mousse contains many pure plant-based ingredients that make sure your hair can look its very best. The mousse improves moisture in your hair, your hair colour is protected and gets a silky shine. Dehydrating alcohols include: alcohol denat, ethanol, isopropyl, porpanol, propyl and SD alcohol 40. WECOLOUR Volume Mousse actually improves your hair's moisture balance, protects your hair colour and provides your hair with a silky sheen.

Condition your hair in between

Make sure you always carry a nourishing oil or oil-in-cream solution to touch up and moisturise your hair between uses. Try our Argan Silk, whose handy size makes it easy to carry in your bag.

Silk pillowcase

For the morning frizzies among us: use a silk pillowcase to prevent friction from your hair while you sleep. Often the hair at the back of your head is frizzy due to a lot of friction that you prevent this way. Are you struggling to stay on your pillow? Instead of a pillowcase, you can use a silk sleep hair scarf. With your locks on or in the super-smooth fabric cover, you prevent friction and this ensures that moisture is not drawn out of your hair. This also helps well with frizzy hair at the back of your head.

Using these tips, you can prevent damage to the outer hair layer, the hair cuticles. And thus prevent the hair shafts from no longer being able to absorb and store sufficient moisture. If you do choose a straight look and cannot do without your straightener, at least make sure you choose one that is less damaging to your hair and protect your hair from the heat with good products.

The best hairstyles for dry and frizzy hair

Of course, you know that you are contributing to frizz by grooming and styling your hair too often with overly aggressive products and you secretly know that you could be kinder to your hair. But did you know that it also makes quite a difference which hairstyle you choose? Some hairstyles are more suitable for frizzy hair than others. So which hairstyles are easy for you to style and keep the frizz away?

A short layered bob

Do you have long hair now? Then go for something shorter! Choose a messy bob with loose layers. You will create an edgy look with lots of texture. This way, you give your curls or waves (frizzy hair is often actually curls that don't show up well) a chance because your hair gets more energy by taking a bit off the lengths.

A lob, a long bob to just above your shoulders

Still prefer something longer? Then try a lob. A layered, longer bob can also go well with your frizzy hair. This style requires a little less maintenance in the form of a haircut. That' s always good, of course!

The best styling for frizzy hair

If the care and hairstyling tips are of no use to you right now because your frizzy hair needs to be tamed right now, we have some quick styling tips for you to mask your frizzy hair:

  1. Half-up, half-down
Wear your hair differently with a half-up, half-down do, by slightly twisting the front part of your hair into a bun. Loosely secure this in the middle of the back of your head with a pin or hair clips.
  2. Cover-up with a scarf
Twist your hair into a low, messy bun. Then tie a cute scarf around the crown of your head and voilà! Great for those days when you really don't feel like it or have time
  3. Do the donut!
Sometimes updos are a great solution. Get your frizzy hair nice and out of your face and make a bun. For this, try using hair donuts to create volume and a perfect circle.

Short frizzy hair

Do you have short frizzy hair? With your short hair, you have a big advantage over long hair: your hair is still young and hasn't had to endure as much as hair that is longer. So it is usually not as damaged. If your short hair does get frizzy, such as frizzy hair on top, this is often easier to fix by adjusting the care. See the tips under 'preventing frizzy hair'. You can also cover your short, frizzy hair with a scarf or a trendy bandana if you are having a really bad hairday.

Frizzy grey hair

Do you have grey hair and now (suddenly) suffer from frizz? Grey hair may quickly appear frizzy and thicker and more stubborn. But actually, it is actually thinner. It appears thicker because it is less elastic. This is because the scalp makes less oil. So your hair does feel a bit harder without this natural oil. Does this happen to you? Then your hair may feel a bit less supple. The key is to be extra kind to your grey hair and use good nourishing products. This will prevent frizz and make it look better.

Frizzy hair on top

Do you suffer from frizzy hair on top? Often these are new hairs. They are short and therefore tend not to fall neatly in line between your other hairs. These frizzy hairs on top are not dry or damaged. So grooming tips won't help much with these youngsters, unfortunately. However, we do understand that you would like to get rid of them. What helps is to spray a little hairspray on your brush or comb and then gently comb or brush these fluffy young hairs between your other hairs. Some people swear by an anti-frizz hair serum. We at WECOLOUR are a bit hesitant about these, as they often contain non-washable silicones. You can only get these out of your hair by washing with an aggressive shampoo with sulphates. That, in turn, is too aggressive for your hair and you end up in a vicious circle. A natural solution that many people say works well is to apply a very small amount of coconut oil/coconut fat in these hairs to tame them.

You now know that you can do a lot yourself in caring for your hair to prevent frizzy hair. If this doesn't help enough, you can also look at a different style for your hair that better suits your hair type and makes your hair look better. Layers are especially suitable for frizzy hair.
