Hair Trends 2022 - 2023

Feel like doing something different with your hair, but not sure what you want yet and looking for inspiration? We took a good look online to see what hair trends 2022-2023 are this autumn and winter in terms of hair colours, cuts and ways to style your hair.

The hair colour trends of winter 2022-2023

If you are in to it a little bit with the trends, the new colours for this season are not surprising. As always in autumn when the leaves fall from the trees, we see the return of warmer colours, if ever they were gone. This seems to have to do with the need for warm and comforting colours when the sunlight and warmth disappears.

That is why we will see lots of red and copper shades again this autumn! Also very popular with the celebs. From super bright solid reds to mahogany, caramel and cappuccino coloured hair. Or how about a mid-brown base with darker red lowlights and lighter red highlights or a balayage with copper red? Actually, all warm shades containing red, copper or brown can be done in all combinations, with balayage and high- and lowlights. Unlike last year, when we mainly spotted plain colours.

These warm shades can liven up your complexion and make you look radiant. In our hair colour shop you can filter by nuance and thus quickly see which warm colours you can choose from. Are you in doubt whether a warm colour would suit you? Read our blog 'which hair colour suits my skin' to see if and which warm colours suit you.

Take an instant look at our warm nuances here: warm nuances WECOLOUR.

In our shop you can find not only your warm hair colour, but also a unique new product to create your highlights or balayage with. This is the WECOLOUR Bleach and Highlight set. Unlike most highlight products and blonde powders you can buy in the stores, the quality of your hair is a lot less affected and remains wonderfully soft!

Coupes 2022-2023

This autumn, you can clearly see a number of different styles. However, we do go for more natural, as with the 'clean' make-up look. So if you have curls, don't try to achieve the 'curtain cut'. The point is to choose a hairstyle that suits your hair texture, which means you don't have to unleash a whole box of tricks and heat tools on it before it looks as intended. The idea is to enhance what nature has given you, with styling sprays, all sorts of accessories and a hairstyle that does your hair justice. Nice! And also better for your hair, and therefore for your hair colour which will last longer beautifully.

The part

Partings are here to stay this autumn and winter. The part for this autumn/winter is the Birkin way. It was made famous in the seventies by Jane Birkin. These fringes are slightly longer at the sides and shorter in the middle. The advantage is that it suits all face shapes and hair lengths!

For those who want thicker, more dramatic fringes, the Bardot part is an alternative. We also saw these thicker, voluminous fringes with many layered lengths and a vintage look last year.

Layers

The Jennifer Anniston (Rachel from Friends) kind of nineties hairstyles we already saw in recent years, with lots of layers, remain a trend this winter. However, this season they will be more subtle and therefore less wild.

U-shape

Want it a little more subtle? Then maybe the TikTok trend the U-shape, which started in Korea, is what you need!

This technique is suitable for longer or mid-length hair. You have your hair cut at the back in a U-shape. So not straight to one length or round, with your hair only slightly shorter at the sides and front. With the U-shape, the length difference is greater, and the hair is gradually layered at the sides.

The advantage of this is that it gives your hair more volume. Which is only logical, as it is shorter so less heavy. As a result, you create shorter strands around your face and therefore more liveliness and movement. You can also style these shorter strands very nicely over your longer strands, creating a nice 'layering' effect.

This hair trend, often seen on TikTok, is suitable for straight hair but also for waves or curls. You can combine this trend with all kinds of fringes but of course you don't have to.

Curtain cut

Not your cup of tea, layers? Then maybe the curtain cut is something for you! Not to be confused with the curtain bangs; with curtain bangs you do have layers.

The curtain cut is a classy cut for mid-length hair that should fall nicely smooth and straight. Symmetry is very important for this hair style. Your locks fall inwards around your face (hence 'curtain'). Unlike the other popular hairstyles, the curtain cut has no layers, and is cut somewhere between the chin and shoulders.

How do you style the curtain cut?

After washing, make a middle parting in your hair and blow-dry it gently in a downward motion. It is best to use a soft round brush. Make sure to blow your locks in at the bottom. Difficult? Then use a straightener for this if necessary.

Ways to style your hair

Many of the ways to style your hair can be found on TikTok. We took a look around there too and found some ways to style your hair that stand out and are totally 2023!

Wetlook

Two looks can be distinguished: the just-out-of-water look where the hair may also be messy. To achieve this beach look, it is important not to reach for products that harden, such as mousse. Instead, go for a matte pomade and some styling oil. You want to keep your hair relatively flexible and soft and avoid the crunch of mousse. When it comes to matt pomade, don't overdo it - a small amount will get you a long way!

The slightly trickier wet look to achieve is the 'red carpet wet look'. You start by washing your hair and apply a heat protectant and mousse after towel-drying it. Gently brush through the hair with a flat brush to detangle it and blow-dry it almost dry. Then apply a liquid gel that fixes the still slightly damp hair by combing it through well with a coarse comb to distribute the product well throughout your hair. Blow-dry it again gently. Apply some more gel and, for a smooth finish, shine-enhancing, moisturising hairspray. This can be quite generous.

Clic-clac hair clips

Clic-clac hair pins are a big hair trend for winter 2022 2023! You might only know these simple pins from little girls or to hold a rebellious tuft in place. But this winter it is the fashion accessory for in your hair that, although super simple, should be the eye-catcher. Also seen on the catwalks during Fashion Weeks in Paris, Milan and Denmark. The clic-clac hairpins are ideal for securing locks. From some brands, the pins have rubber on the inside so they have extra grip and do not slide out of your hair.

Side parting

Where influencers had long agreed that there was only one kind of parting as far as they were concerned, then again, the side parting has been widely seen in the fashion scene. Did you already have one? You are hip and happening again! You can fasten your side parting on the long side with sliding pins or, of course, with the click-clack pins. This trend was seen a lot on the catwalks. An advantage is that a side parting looks better on most people than a middle parting, unless you have a completely symmetrical face and the attention should be on your nose. In general, you also look a bit younger with a side parting. Convenient, right?!

Low elegant bun

Much seen, including on TikTok, is the low bun. This season's bun is not last year's high, messy and casual bun, but a structured, clean and neat low bun. To achieve this style, you'll find the essential steps explained in videos on TikTok:

  • First, apply a leave-in conditioner to your hair (wet or dry).

  • Make a bun by pulling your hair back with a brush, making sure your hair is completely smooth and there are no bumps in it.
  • Use an elastic to tie your hair into a bun, let some hair stick out, or not, as you like! If necessary, add a few hair clips to further secure your bun.
  • Spray a little hairspray to fix it and you're done.

The difficulty level is not high and this bun will give you an elegant and super glamorous look. And ideal, of course, if your long or mid-length hair doesn't want to stay in place.

Bubble tails and pigtails
