How do you protect your hair from the sun, seawater and chlorine?

How do you protect your hair from the sun, seawater and chlorine?

Your hair will lighten up in the summer, especially when it's been coloured. There are several things you can do to prevent this, and we've listed them for you. If you apply conditioner in your hair before you get into the water, it will protect your hair from chlorine, seawater and dehydration. Additionally, Argan Silk contains 100% pure argan oil that protects your hair against discolouration and cares for your hair.

How do you protect your hair from seawater and chlorine?

Before you go swimming, make sure to wet your hair with tap water. When your hair is wet, it's not able to absorb as much chlorine and salt as when it's dry. It's still important to rinse out your hair thoroughly when you're done. Even though the hair hasn't absorbed the salt and chlorine, it's still resting between the hairs, drying out the hair. It also helps to wear your hair in a bun, on the top of your head. This lowers the chance of your hair getting wet, unless you deliberately take a dive, of course. It will be hard to resist the temptation, but to protect your hair, it's better to keep it dry.

Nourish and protect your hair before you go swimming

If you treat and nourish your hair before you go swimming, it will feel smooth. The salt and chlorine will have a hard time holding onto the hair. A good product to use is the Argan Silk. This not only nourishes the hair, but it protects your hair from the sun. Because it doesn't contain silicones, the product won't be damaging to nature (which is usually the case with shampoos). If you don't have Argan Silk, you could use a bit of conditioner. These products don't contain silicones, therefore making it not as damaging to the sea as other products.

Protect yourself and your hair by wearing hats

The heat of the sun will dry out your hair and cause it to lighten up. You can prevent this by wearing hats. The sun won't be abe to shine on your hair directly. The damage won't be as bad and your hair won't discolour as much. Aside from protecting your hair, a hat will also protect your face. If you're not that big of a fan of hats, make sure to put a product in your hair that protects it from dehydration and discolouration. A good solution is Argan Silk, which not only cares for the hair but also protects it against discolouration. Especially in summer, taking proper care of your hair is essential, especially if your going to a warm country.

Take extra care of your hair during sunny days

Has your hair unexpectedly dried out? Then wash it with a mild shampoo like our Dark Bamboo and pamper your hair with a nourishing mask like Colour Mask. This way, you give your hair a boost and it can recover faster from the harmful influences of sun, sea, pool water, etc. Of course, prevention is always better than cure so rather observe the above. Also, you cannot restore the colour once it is affected by the sun and sea or chlorinated water. Then you have to dye it again. Fortunately, our hair dye is gentle on your hair making dyeing much less harmful. You can also choose to refresh the hair colour by diluting your hair colour with 1/3 water. You then make a toner of your hair colour. Read more about toners in the blog 'What are toners?'.

Nutrition

Nutrition has a big influence on the quality of your hair. Make sure to drink enough water and consume vitamin B and E. Food, like avocado, fish and nuts contain a lot of those. Remenber: healthy hair will hold the colour much longer. Protect your hair from the sun and feel the difference!

Chemical treatments

We understand that you want your hair to be absolutely tip-top when you go on holiday. But it is better not to chemically treat your hair before exposing it to sun and sea or pool water. The combination with sun, sea and chlorinated water is often just too much of a good thing. If you dye before you go to a sunny destination, your colour will not last as long either, which is a shame!

Do you still want to chemically treat or dye your hair before your holiday? Then do this a few weeks before your sun holiday, so your hair can recover first. Just after a sun holiday, leave your hair alone for a while before treating it.

If your hair is still damaged after your holiday, go to the hairdresser and get the ends cut. Afterwards, take care of it regularly with a nourishing mask like Colour Mask and a leave-in like Argan silk. But as mentioned before, prevention is always better than cure, so protect your hair properly from sun, chlorine and seawater.
