Warm or cool haircolour?

Should you go for a warm or a cool hair colour?

Will you go for a warm or cool hair colour? Ash colours and mahogany are on the cool side of the colour wheel, so they'll look good on people with cool undertones in their skin.

When to choose a cool colour?

A hair colour will bring out the same undertones in your face as in your hair. Cool ash colours will emphasize the colour of your eyebrows or your freckles and can make your eye colour pop. Nice! Because ash colours are a cool tone, ash blonde colours often fit well with people with light or pale tones in the face with blue, grey or green eyes. Ash tints will make you paler and more serene. If you have a lot of natural warmth in your hair (lots of red pigment), you'll still be able to see it even after dyeing your hair. The red pigments will even build up in your hair. It's best not to pick a warm hair colour if you blush quickly or have other red spots in your face, because they'll be accentuated by the warm toness in your hair. Opt for an ash or mahogany colour instead.

The processing time of ash colours

When dyeing your hair to an ash colour, ash dark brown (4.1), ash brown (5.1), ash light brown (6.1), ash dark blonde (7.1), ash blonde (8.1), ash light blonde (9.1), extra ash light blonde (10.11) and very light ash blonde (11.1) the ash tone will only develop in the last stage of the dyeing process. Therefore it's important not to rinse the dye out too quickly, you won't really get the ash tint you're going for. Let the dye sit for at least the 35 minutes before rinsing it out. Optionally, you can also let the dye sit for 45 minutes from the moment you have finished applying the hair dye. If you have a lot of warmth in your hair, the extra ash blonde (10.11) would be the best colour for you. You could also mix it with another colour, like ash blonde (8.1) for example. This will make any red cheeks or spots disappear.

Grey coverage with ash colours

Ash colours generally turn out one colour level darker than expected. That's because there's been dark blue pigment added to the dye to prevent any warmth in the hair colour. If you don't wanna go too dark, always pick a colour 1 tint lighter than the colour you actually want. If that's too light, you can always dye it darker and at WECOLOUR we'll send you the new colour for free. Once your hair has been dyed too dark, you can't make it any lighter. The grey coverage of our ash tints is overall pretty good. Some people still mix it with a natural tint, to make sure it has 100% coverage. When mixing an ash tint with a natural colour, use a mixing ratio of 1:1, so equal parts of each colour.

When to choose a warm colour

Would you like a softer look? Or are you naturally very pale? Don't pick an ash tone The goal for your new hair colour is to flatter you, and ash tones will only make you paler. Do you have a warm undertone in your skin and do you often wear bright colours such as red, orange and yellow? Then you're a warm type. It's best to opt for colours such as

Keep in mind that golden tones turn out a bit darker than natural tones.
