Taking care of your hair is the best tip for beautiful hair! Getting your hair back into tip-top condition is not difficult, but sometimes you need just the right pointers so that your hair starts shining all over again. Healthy food and good hygiene are an important part of maintaining your luscious hair.
Here you will find some useful tips for how to take care of your hair and how to do it at home:
- Don't wash your hair too often and wash with a good quality shampoo. If you wash your hair too often, it dehydrates and loses its natural oils. Try to wash it twice a week at most. If you wash it more often now, try to sneak in a day each time before washing your hair again. Choose a shampoo suitable for your hair and avoid parabens and sulphates. Both are not healthy for you and the environment.
- Wash/treat your hair with our Dark Bamboo! Especially for frizzy, dry hair, this really makes a difference. Dark Bamboo is a product that has a purifying effect due to natural products and is even gentler on your hair and scalp. Even people with very sensitive skin tolerate Dark Bamboo. Because it is so natural, it does not frizz, gives a beautiful curl or volume to fine hair. Dark Bamboo is really: as pure as possible. Much gentler on your hair and scalp than an ordinary shampoo.
- After washing, always use a conditioner that is also suitable for your hair. Especially if you have colour-treated or damaged hair; then your hair needs extra love. Make sure the conditioner does not contain too many proteins. Proteins dry out your hair and can make it brittle, but you do need some protein to keep your hair healthy.
- If your hair is nonetheless dried out or doesn't feel healthy, try our Colour Mask. Colour Mask gives extra care and hydration to your hair. You can also use Colour Mask during dying your hair. Just mix some Colour Mask into the dye mixture. You will then protect your hair and scalp during dyeing.
- After washing your hair, rinse it with lukewarm water (avoid the hot tap as much as possible) and preferably with cold water. This will close the cuticles, giving your hair more shine.
- Don't reach for that brush too often. Women who have a gorgeous head of hair are reluctant to use a brush. They often use a comb made of natural material (bamboo or sandalwood) to comb through their hair immediately after showering. They go through their hair with this only once. Read more about brushing and combing here.
- Let your hair 'air dry'. Dry your hair when you get out of the shower by squeezing it gently with the towel or even better, do this with a cotton t-shirt or something made of a natural material (check out a bamboo hair towel). Do not rub dry, as this too will make your hair brittle and/or dull. Brush or comb your hair to get the tangles out and then let it air dry. If you do blow dry your hair, do so at a low temperature and use a product that protects your hair from the heat, for example our Argan Silk.
- A satin pillowcase will make your hair less exposed to friction while sleeping. This seems to make a big difference!
- If you have long hair, you can wear it in a loose braid before sleeping, so it is also exposed to less friction. Just make sure you use a soft hair elastic, for instance made of terry cloth. Try to avoid using rubber elastic bands. These can pull your hair out of the hair follicles. Tight ponytails are also best avoided. This is also not good for the roots and hair follicles.
- Get a haircut regularly; every 6-8 weeks. You can also read about this in the blog "how often should you cut your hair?", as this depends on the length of your hair. You will see that this really improves your hair!
- Try to style your hair in a natural way so that it is less damaging to your hair. If you style your hair a few times a week, this can put pressure on your hair. But if you wash your hair twice a week and also only style it twice a week, this of course won't hurt. Also make sure your styling products do not contain sulphates, parabens and drying alcohol. Our Volume Mousse gives your hair volume and does not make it stiff. It also gives extra care to the colour.
- Eat healthy. Of course, this is not only important for your hair, but also for your body ;-) Make sure you get enough vitamins, proteins, whole grains, fruits and vegetables. A healthy diet gives you more beautiful and healthier hair. Vitamin C strengthens your hair, iron provides oxygen, zinc creates and repairs your tissues and omega 3 fatty acids ensure healthy hair.
- Avoid stress. We write it often enough, but try to avoid stress. If you experience stress, your hair can suffer from it. For instance, hair loss and, of course, no one wants that. Make sure you have a (healthy) outlet for any stress. Try going for a walk or a bike ride every day.
