Move over blondes, 2024 will be the year of warm brunettes; the hair colour trends of 2024 are dominated by brown and in warm nuances! In fact, it is nuances like cinnamon, mocha and caramel that dominate, interspersed with the trend on TikTok: cowboy copper.
You may have come across the term before: cowboy copper! Many American celebrities (they are often the first to spot trends there) have already dyed their hair in this colour, but it is expected that it will soon become a permanent trend here as well. Cowboy copper is a trend that includes several brown colour heights and nuances of red and has different colour descriptions. It is the biggest ‘red’ hair colour trend this autumn and for 2024, in brown and dark brown colour heights. Cowboy therefore refers to the (dark) brown of saddles, reins and cowboy hats and copper, of course, to the copper nuance.
Cowboy Copper, unlike last year's red, is more gold and maroon and a lot more natural than the brighter bold copper shades we saw everywhere last year. The copper nuance is a lot more muted. It is a mix of a warm, chestnut brown nuance with subtle hints of gold and copper.
The warm look of Cowboy Copper makes it the perfect colour for autumn!
At WECOLOUR, you'll find the following colours that match the cowboy copper trend in brown and dark brown colour heights:
You can mix the colours and shades to achieve your desired colour. If necessary, you can add some highlights afterwards.
Also on TikTok, we spot the shade chocolate-gold, mainly in the colour heights light brown/dark blonde. These are beautiful warm colours, without red or copper. For this, choose our caramel dark blonde (7.7) which you mix to taste with, say, gold dark blonde (7.3) or gold blonde (8.3) if you want it a bit lighter. An added advantage of gold shades is that they cover very well on grey hair.
Is your hair darker? You will also find a nice chocolate nuance in the colour level brown: our chocolate brown (5.7). Mix these if you have slightly darker brown hair with, for example, gold dark brown (4.3). Mixing with ice brown (5.31) or with gold light brown (6.3), for a lighter colour), is of course also possible.
We also see this trend a lot: brunettes with golden highlights. Your brown hair is highlighted with playful golden highlights, a trend not to be missed this season! Although highlights are associated with summer, honey-coloured highlights naturally add a radiant touch even in the dark winter. Strategic highlights lighten and rejuvenate your face and also add shine. You create a striking, fresh and youthful look.
Creating your own highlights
How can you achieve this effect at home? We asked Mike, who ran his own hair salon for twenty-five years. ‘If your hair is not too long* (shoulder length), you can create highlights in these with WECOLOUR blonde. In fact, you can then use the blonde cap to easily apply the highlights and afterwards apply the toner only on your highlights. Because when you rinse and wash out the blonde, you do so with the cap still on. You can immediately show (only) your highlights afterwards. So the rest of your hair, you don't treat with the toner. Leave the blonde in your hair until it reaches the colour level you want your highlights to be. So it doesn't have to be light blonde. Note: your hair probably won't be a nice blonde colour by then. Because of the lightening of your hair, it will be a warm colour, but this will be better. In fact, in your rinsed-out highlights, you apply a toner in the colour you want. We recommend choosing a natural shade in this case. Then you create highlights in a warm nuance but not too warm'.
Is your hair longer? Then using a blonde cap is not always possible. This is because it is then difficult to pull your long hair out of the cap with the hook. Of course, you can apply highlights in a different way, but that means you can't apply the toner only to the highlighted strands afterwards. Because the toner can have an unwanted lightening effect on the rest of your hair, we advise against it. In that case, you could also choose not to show the highlights (and thus the rest of your hair).
Another trend on TikTok is the ginger trend. Actually, in our opinion, this is a descendant of the Cowboy Copper trend, as this too is a warm copper colour with gold, but lighter. So as a blonde, you could opt for this trend. Also, the copper effect is a bit more subtle with the ginger look. For this colour, take a look at our shade copper gold blonde (8.43). To tone it down a bit, you can mix it with our colours light blonde (9.0) and very light blonde (10.01). Please note that you cannot dye dyed hair lighter. Is your hair not dyed now? Then you can dye it slightly lighter than the colour it is now, but not very much lighter.
Do you want it slightly darker? Then go for example for copper dark blonde (7.4) which you mix with light blonde (9.0) and very light blonde (10.01).
Sustainability and care for the environment will still be an important issue in the beauty industry in 2024, including hair colour. The warm browns, soft beige tones and soft caramel shades we see a lot of now, fit right into that picture. These colours give you a classic look and show that you care about the environment. Choosing natural hair colours can also reduce the damage that essential chemical treatments do to the environment.
As you can see, there are a number of trends clearly observable again in hair colours! Of course, the most important thing is to choose a hair colour that you feel and look best with.
