What is unruly hair and what can you do about it?

What exactly is unruly hair? The answer to that question is in this blog. We will also give you tips on how to get rid of unruly hair so that your hair becomes soft, supple and shiny again so you can style it easily!

What is unruly hair and how do you recognise it?

Unruly hair is best described as hair with a manual. It is stubborn and mainly does what it wants: it grows in different directions. This makes unruly hair difficult to style and it is also often coarse and frizzy. Unruly hair can be natural or due to dryness. For people with curly or wavy hair, unruly hair can quickly become an issue, as hair is naturally drier and more vulnerable.

What to do if you have unruly hair?

Unruly hair can be seen as a rebellious adolescent. Going against it backfires. Going along with it and making adjustments is more effective. Incidentally, it is important and fair to mention that unruly hair remains stubborn: don't expect miracles. It starts with acceptance of the fact that you have unruly hair. That rebellious adolescent won't suddenly take the whole household off your hands after a good talk, either. But you can use the following tips to get your unruly hair better in line:

Don't wash your hair too often

Choose a mild shampoo specially designed for unruly, frizzy and dry hair. In addition, don't wash your hair too often; once or twice a week at most. An aggressive shampoo not only removes dirt but also the natural oils on your scalp and in your hair. Washing your hair more often than necessary will dry it out even more, making it more unruly. In addition, do not wash your hair at too hot a temperature: lukewarm water will do.

Always use a conditioner after washing your hair. This conditions the hair and makes it extra soft. Preferably choose a conditioner without silicones, sulphates and parabens. Rinse your hair with cold water after washing.

Do not comb your hair when it is dry

After washing, gently pat your hair dry with a towel or, even better, a cotton t-shirt. Then comb your hair thoroughly with a wide-toothed comb. Use a serum to make your hair softer and easier to comb through. Try not to brush or comb your hair when it is dry; this may just make it more frizzy.

Don't touch your hair too much :)

Many people have a habit of constantly touching their hair. This causes friction, making your hair more frizzy. It also makes your hair greasy quicker so you have to wash it more often - thereby causing it to dry out again.

Get a regular haircut

Visit your barber regularly for a trim. If you regularly get your hair cut your hair will stay healthy. This is because you remove the dead split ends. This will allow the hair at the root to continue growing and you will keep the length without splitting your hair further.

Use as little heat as possible

We can't say it often enough: avoid heat! Straighteners, curling irons and blow dryers are real culprits for your hair - this is especially true if you have unruly hair. Heating your hair causes it to dry out even more, making it even more frizzy. If you still want to use it, make sure your hair is protected with Argan Silk, for example, and set the temperature as low as possible.

Use a moisturising and conditioning mask regularly

A good hair mask puts a protective layer over your hair, making it nice and smooth and shiny. This way, you are immediately protected against damage from sunlight or the hair dryer, for example.

Reshape your unruly hair

Hair that is unruly is often more difficult to style and shape. You often cannot get rid of unruly hair completely, but with tips and the use of the right hair care and styling products you can go a long way. WECOLOUR products are excellent to use with unruly hair. Try them for yourself!
