Which hair colour suits a summer type?

Which hair colour suits a summer type?

As a summer type, you have a cool undertone in your skin. Ash tones and neutral hair colours suit a summer type best. Think ash blonde, natural blonde or very light ash blonde.

How do you know if you are a summer type?

Summer types have a blue/pink undertone in their skin (cool). 60% of Dutch women are summer types, so chances are you fall into this category. What are the characteristics of a summer type? We list them for you.

Skin characteristics

  • Ashy cool undertone
  • Blue/pink tones
  • Any freckles are more grey-brown than golden yellow

Hair characteristics

  • Ash blonde from light to dark
  • Can also be brown but rather dull brown. The hair does not have a natural shine as in the spring type
  • Typical silvery ash at the hairline

Eye characteristics

  • Shade of grey/green/blue or cool brown shades
  • Eye colour is mostly in the medium shades (i.e. not very light but not very dark either)

Summer types with different proportion

Don't quite recognise yourself in the above? Chances are you have another share. There are summer types with a winter bias and summer types with a warm bias.

Summer types with a winter tendency
In summer types with a winter tendency, the hair is a bit darker but still ashy. Eye colour and eyebrows are bright and medium to dark coloured. Pigmentation is also more contrasting but not as obvious as in a true winter type.

Summer types with a warm proportion
In summer types with a warm proportion, you can see a slight golden glow in the hair. The skin may have warm summer freckles and the eyes are light shades of olive green, olive brown or golden brown. However, the undertone in the skin is always cool.

What hair colours do you choose as a summer type?

Summer types best choose cool and neutral hair colours. Think ash light blonde (9.1), medium blonde (8.0) or very light ash blonde (11.1). Warm colours are best avoided. They will highlight blemishes and red spots, while a cool colour keeps harmony in your face.

Are you a summer type with a winter tendency? Then choose a slightly darker ash shade such as ash dark blonde (7.1). On the contrary, do you have more of a warm proportion? Then choose a sand light blonde (9.13) or mix golden light blonde (9.3) with medium blonde (8.0).

Famous summer types

Cameron Diaz, Sharon Stone and Reese Witherspoon are well-known summer types. All three are characterised by their cool skin, cool blue/green eyes and ash-blonde hair. If they were to opt for a warm hair colour (they have done so in the past, just google), you can see that red spots and other blemishes become much more visible. Much more make-up has to be worn to bring back harmony in the face. Bummer! Are you a summer type? Then really choose a matt, cool hair colour.
